Jean-Paul Servais is the chairman of the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA). As financial supervisory authority, the FSMA is amongst other things tasked with supervision of financial products and of the rules of conduct.

Internationally, he holds mandates as vice chair of the IOSCO Board, as well as chair of the IOSCO European Regional Committee. He is also a board member of ESMA and the ESRB, and chairs the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board.

He teaches at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). He is author or co-author of numerous publications, in particular in areas of relevance to the FSMA’s activities and the academic and scientific activities undertaken at the ULB.

He obtained a Master of Law (Master en droit) from the ULB and a Master of Economics in Business Management from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
