Donna Wacker is the Head of the firm’s Contentious Regulatory and Contentious Insolvency practices in Hong Kong. Admitted in Hong Kong, Australia and England & Wales, Donna has more than 18 years experience in Asia, advising on contentious and advisory regulatory matters and complex litigation with an emphasis on the financial services industry.
Donna’s experience extends across advising banks, alternative investment funds, brokerages and listed companies in a wide range of regulatory matters and investigations by regulators across Asia, including investigations into insider dealing and market manipulation, short selling and electronic trading issues, and position reporting. She has acted for a number of financial institutions and corporates in many disputes involving derivatives or structured transactions on grounds of mis-selling, close-out valuation disputes arising from the financial crisis, contractual misrepresentation claims, lack of authority, negligence, breach of regulatory protections, and the like. She has also worked on many high profile insolvency-related matters arising out of the Peregrine collapse and Asian crisis of the later 1990’s as well as the Lehman Brothers collapse, and numerous other “distressed” scenarios, including advising Liquidators, Receivers and other office holders in realisation actions.
Donna is the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Law Society’s Overseas Lawyers Committee and a founding member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, Hong Kong Chapter.
