Darryl West is HSBC’s Group Chief Information Officer and a Group General Manager, heading up the bank’s Technology function.
Technology is rapidly evolving, with customers expecting to interact more quickly and securely with their service providers. For HSBC, the ability to rapidly deliver innovative technology, safely and securely, is at the heart of delivering the simpler, better, faster banking experience that our customers and colleagues expect.

Based in Hong Kong, Darryl is leading the global transformation of HSBC Technology, with the stated aim to be the world’s leading financial services technology team. The IT team at HSBC is circa. 40,000 people, spread across 53 locations.

Darryl has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services, holding senior level positions with major Financial Services organisations – Barclays PLC, Lloyds Banking Group, JP Morgan Chase, Accenture and the National Australia Group Europe.

Prior to joining HSBC in February 2015, Darryl worked at Barclays PLC where he was Group CIO. Prior to that he was Group CIO at Lloyds Banking Group, where he played a leading role in the integration of Lloyds TSB and Halifax Bank of Scotland and led the transformation of the Lloyds Banking Group IT organisation. In recognition of this work at Lloyds, he received the 2013 NASSCOM Global Leadership Award for Business Transformation using IT.

Darryl graduated first in his class at Deakin University in Australia and has a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accountancy and Computer Science. He is a Fellow of Australia’s Institute of Chartered Accountants.
