John is a corporate partner of Linklaters Shanghai office. He has 17 years of experience in cross-border M&A, restructuring, joint venture transactions and commercial contracts, in particular in the FIG sector and outbound investments. John is a member of the New York State Bar Association.

John’s work for FIG clients includes advising: Citigroup Inc. on the establishment of its securities joint venture with Orient Securities; UBS AG on its RMB 1.7bn investment in and restructuring of Beijing Securities Co., Limited; Morgan Stanley on its RMB 1.185bn securities joint venture, Morgan Stanley Huaxin Securities, established with China Fortune Securities Co. Ltd.; J.P. Morgan on its US$120m investment in an investment banking joint venture with First Capital Securities Co., Ltd.; CLSA on the restructuring of its securities joint venture including business scope expansion and the replacement of Xiangcai Securities by Valin as the PRC joint venture partner.

John also has extensive experience in China outbound investments. He advised Xiamen International Bank on its US$1bn acquisition of a majority stake in Chiyu Bank from Bank of China; and China Construction Bank on its acquisition of 72% of Banco Industrial e Comercial (BICBANCO), a Brazilian bank listed on the San Paulo Stock Exchange.

John is fluent in Mandarin and English.
