Motonobu Matsuo

Motonobu Matsuo is Senior Managing Director of the Japan Securities Dealers Association, concurrently serving as its Chief Operating Officer for Securities Strategy Board.
Previously, Mr. Matsuo worked for the Ministry of Finance from 1987 to 2014, where he served in the Budget Bureau as a Director for the Internal Affairs Budget and International Bureau as a Director of the Foreign Exchange Markets Division. Afterwards, he joined the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) as part of the Planning and Coordination Bureau, serving as Director of the Planning Division, in 2014 and Deputy Director-General of the Credit & Insurance system, in 2016. He also worked as Secretary General of the Certified Public Accountants and Auditing Oversight Board, in 2017 and Vice Commissioner for Evidence-based Policymaking of the Strategy Development and Management Bureau, in 2019.
In 2020, Mr. Matsuo became the Secretary-General of the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission, and in 2021, he became the Director-General of the Strategy Development and Management Bureau.
Before joining JSDA in July 2023, he was in the position of Executive Fellow of Japan Securities Research Institute.
Mr. Matsuo holds a BA degree in Law from University of Tokyo, and a degree in LL.M. from Harvard Law School.
